Are Various Forms of Gluten Diets Really Effective?



Gluten is essentially the elasticity obtained when you mix cereal grains together and the proteins collaborate. When someone goes on a gluten free diet, it actually means that a person is off protein gluten. Gluten is found in almost all the popular grains like wheat, rye, barley and triticale.

Gluten free diet has become a fad nowadays because of its proclaimed health benefits and it's ability to make people lose weight. Celebrities are recommending it and people are going gaga over it, without doing adequate research on it. The reason this is happening has been analysed by several hospitals and doctors and they are attributing it to social media. Nowadays we have 'social media influencers’ who talk about this diet in very high regards and can easily influence people who in turn will think 'If he can feel good after being on this diet, so will I.’ This is why after a survey was conducted on people who were on a 'gluten-free’ diet, half of the majority said they did it because it was healthy but didn't know the health benefits.

With so many people being on the  diet, yet unaware of the purpose of it, let us see who should stay away from gluten.

1.    A gluten-free diet is extremely important for managing a disease called the celiac disease and various other medical conditions that gluten can induce. These are the people who actually need to stay away from gluten. Only around 1 percent, 1 in 100 people, suffer from celiac disease which is an inherited disease that affects the immunity and damages the small intestine when eaten.Some women also advocate the benefits of gluten avoidance during pregnancy.
2.    Completely removing gluten from your diet, changes your body and the way it intakes fiber, nutrients and important vitamins. It is of utmost importance that you follow a gluten free diet only after you go to a doctor and get a medical check up and see if is feasible for you. Doing this without any consultation can lead to damaging effects and a dietician can help you with what you're looking to establish with or without a gluten free diet.

Is this diet a fad?

As much as people would like to believe that this diet is completely a fad, there are many medical reasons for which some people completely eliminate gluten out of their diets. One of them is as follows:

Apart from people avoiding gluten due to celiac disease, doctors advise pregnant women to stick to a gluten free diet during the duration of their pregnancy. When you stick to gluten avoidance early pregnancy, it is important to constantly update yourself with nutrition checks and celiac antibody checks. However if a pregnant woman is just looking to not put junk food into her body during pregnancy, then eating healthy and doing mild workouts is much more effective and better than going on a gluten free journey. Like it's said, you can do everything but do it in moderation and you will be happy for the rest of your life.
